With clients such as Nikon, HTC, Yakult, Random House and Kai Mayfair London, it’s little wonder that UK-based photographer team Miss Aniela (Natalie Dybisz and Matt Lennard) is in high demand, with their surreal, otherworldly fashion pics.
Combining art with high fashion, this fusion of traditional imagery mixed with digital enhancements has led to a beguiling series of fashion photos reminiscent of old Rennaissance or Dutch Masters paintings, tinged perhaps, with a touch of absurdity with zoo animals, large birds and phalanxes of butterflies in abundance.
‘Larger-than-life characters preside over a dreamlike tableaux of chandeliers, taxidermy and four-poster beds; motifs for another, utopic world of the past that we long to inhabit’.
Images are shot with full production teams usually involving a stylist, hair and make-up crew, styling assistants and photography assistants. The images are almost exclusively shot on location in houses, stately homes and special venues across UK, Europe and US.
Miss Aniela has been exhibited by the Saatchi Gallery, House of Parliament, Waldermarsudde Museum Stockholm and Vogue Italia in Milan; and in numerous media including BBC, Plastik Magazine, Yahoo, The Metro and NY Arts.
With over 6 years work in the making of the series, Surreal Fashion is in preparation to be published as an art book with limited collectors’ edition.
