What if your favorite Superhero was born in the 16th century?

Taking about 2 years to complete, and with a team of designers, French photographer Sacha Goldberger went about re-imagining his favourite superheroes into a photo-series appropriately titled SuperFlemish.

Goldberger enlisted around 100 people, including costume designers, make-up artists and hairdressers, who helped him mix icons of American culture with Flemish school painting styles, in a nod to famous Flemish artists as Vermeer, and Van Eyck.

Like all true artists, Goldberger drew on his childhood for inspiration, deciding to incorporate his heroes of the time into a different setting, complete with proper lighting and apparel befitting 16th century nobility and the way they were portrayed at the time.

Pretty good – check them out below.
